Dr Abidoye, Luqman Kolawole is a Senior lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, Osun State University where he lectures in Civil Engineering Materials, Engineering Mathematics, Wastewater Engineering, Environmental Engineering and so on. He is the current acting head of the department (2019). He is also the Coordinator of Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute (GASDI) has interests and experience in the advanced multiphase flow characterization techniques in the open and porous media. He has used these techniques to study oil-water flow in porous media in relation to secondary oil recovery.  He has also employed the multiphase technique to study CO2-water/brine flow in porous media.

My research activities in multiphase flow in porous media involve high pressure and temperature that were considered feasible for fluid-fluid-solid system located at the appropriate geological depth. These conditions were employed to understand oil-water flow (as in secondary oil recovery) as well as CO2-brine movement (as in geological carbon sequestration) My investigation techniques for multiphase flow include capillary pressure-saturation relationship (Pc-S), geo-electrical parameters (e.g., electrical conductivity and dielectric permittivity), membrane application, etc. Past activities in these regards included; characterizations of porous media materials; investigations of non-uniqueness in the characterization parameters of two-phase systems; development of novel techniques to assess characteristics of water-saturated porous media contaminated by CO2; membrane application in the monitoring of subsurface gases; use of electrical and capillary parameters in the investigations of two-phase flow and static systems in porous media; waste treatment and reutilization, etc.

Also, I have widely applied numerical simulation techniques to simulate these experimental results. Simulator like: subsurface Transport over Multiple Phases (STOMP) developed by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Washington, was widely used, in this regard. Also, a simulation tool like Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been widely used.

He is a member of United Kingdom Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre (UKCCSRC). Also, he belongs to the Nigerian Youth Academy (NYA), affiliate of Global Young Academy (GYA). He is also a registered Chemical Engineer with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) (R. 18, 881).  In 2011, he won scholarship for overseas PhD  from Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF (Nigeria). This led to his advanced research at Loughborough University, United Kingdom, where he bagged the PhD within a record time, with many publications to his credits in reputable journals. He has received many research awards locally and internationally. These include from UK Government (for collaboration with Curtin University, Australia); Computational Methods in Water Resources (CMWR), University of Stuttgart, Germany- for Conference attendance and presentation; University of Loughborough; TETFUND’s research grant, etc.

Dr Okedere, Oyetunji B. is a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, Osun State University where he lectures in Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics, Engineering Mathematics, Industrial Economics and so on. He headed the department between March 2018 and July 2019. He was also the sub-dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Sciences on postgraduate matters during the same period.

His research interest is in environmental pollution and bio-renewable energy resources. Within the field of environmental pollution, he has focused largely on air pollution monitoring, modeling and control. His works have brought to the fore, the criteria air pollutants and global warming gases associated with major anthropogenic activities such as energy production and utilization in Nigeria, their impacts and mitigation strategies.

Among his notable works in the field of air pollution and renewable energy was the investigation of energy potentials and emission factors of woody biomass in Nigeria which was an extensive work. Considering the fact that the country is in serious need of energy improvement, he has done an in-depth work on the possible utilization of available woody biomass resources as energy sources in the country’s energy mix. This work provided comprehensive data on energy values of up to hundred species of woody biomass found in the country which is arguably the largest single body of data available in the country on this subject matter. It also provided insight in to air pollution issues that may arise from their adoption as energy sources. A comprehensive list of emission factors of hundred species of woody biomass were generated which constitutes a very powerful body of information for governments and regulatory agencies to set and domesticate regulatory standards for adoption of woody biomass as energy sources in the country.

He has also led research in other bio-energy sources apart from woody biomass and this included biodiesel production. The potential of Nigerian shea butter for biodiesel production has been demonstrated through his research efforts. Due to the huge cost associated with biodiesel production, he has worked on the development of local catalyst for the production of biodiesel. In this novel work, solid catalyst was synthesized from natural calcite of Nigerian origin and was demonstrated to have tremendous catalytic action for biodiesel production. He has about thirty publications from his research efforts and which were published in highly rated foreign journals.

He is a registered Chemical Engineer with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) (R. 27, 396). In 2007, he won the postgraduate fellowship of Osun State University for his MSc and PhD training and completed his PhD in 2016 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. He has been a co-winner of Tetfund research grants on two occasions. He is currently conducting studies on global warming gases.

STAFF - PHYSIOLOGY

Dr OyeyipoDr. OYEYIPO Ibukun P.
Head of Department, Physiology

Email:

Dr. Oyeyipo is a Senior Lecturer, the pioneer full-time staff and current Head of Department of Physiology.  He obtained his Ph.D from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 2014 and won a postdoctoral fellowship the same year at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He was admitted as a fellow of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (UK) in 2015. Dr. Oyeyipo was on internship at the Centre for Reproduction Medicine and Andrology, University of Muenster, Germany in 2012 and holds other academic and professional qualifications, obtained from the Nigerian Institute of Management, Earth Institute at Columbia University and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He is an active member of several professional associations within and outside Nigeria and has won several research and academic grants.  Dr Oyeyipo has attended and presented over 25 scientific papers in local and international conferences and has over 35 publications to his credit.

As an academic staff in the University, I am actively involved in teaching, invigilating, assessing and collating students’ results. I am also involved in research from the stage of conceptualization of ideas, publication of findings and ensuring that studies translates into community development through enlightenment talks and counselling.
As Head of Department, I coordinate the day to day administrative and academic activities and oversees the conduct of both staff and students in the Department. I also organise all lectures and coordinate all examination as the chief examiner.

My research activities focus mainly on male reproductive toxicity. In the last decade, I have investigated the effects of some pharmacological agents such as antimalarial agent, oral contraceptives, antidepressant and additives alongside their mechanisms of action with implication for fertility/infertility in both in vivo and in vitro experimental models.
My studies established that Nicotine, Norgestrel, Quassin, Arthemeter and Amitriptyline inhibited sperm functions in animal and human studies. Inhibition of testicular steroidogenesis was the major focus of their actions. They also impacted negatively on male reproductive functions through hypothalamao-hypophyseal- gonadal axis. This could be a major factor among others, attributed for the decline in sperm quality and quantity and thus declined fertility potential in man over the last century.
