NewsimgThe Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labo Popoola has admonished staff of the University to adhere strictly to the laid down regulations as public servants in line with the provision of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB)

Professor Popoola said this during a 1-day workshop held on Tuesday 9th of April, 2019, organized by the University for members of staff to guide against runningfoulof the code of conduct regulations.
Welcoming participants to the Workshop, the Vice Chancellor said that the workshop was part of the processes of nation building adding that corruption in Nigeria has become so endemic.
He said “unfortunately we have also assumed some measures of complacency, and for one single reason, the level of corruption in the land. Corruption has become so endemic everywhere and we find justifications for it”
Speaking further, Professor Popoola said as simplistic as the Asset Declaration Form (ADF) appears, it can make one a hero or finish one reputation wise.

The one day seminar had the State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. AdeniyiOlufadeji as resource person. The Director guided the audience on the do’s and don’ts of filling, signing and submitting the ADF form with a view to maintaining transparency, accountability, honesty in public service and high standard of morality among public servants.
Mr. Olufadeji who noted that the aim of the Bureau is to establish and maintain a high standard of morality in the conduct of Government business, maintained that the Bureau is meant to ensure that the actions and behaviour of public officers conform to the highest standards of public morality and accountability.

The state Director took the participants round every bit of information required of any public servant, filling it without running foul of the bureau acts. He stressed that due diligence must be followed when filling the form. He also noted that spaces provided in the form are limited adding that any staff who may be willing to add more information would have to attach the already filled photocopy of the form to the original form.

During the workshop, the second resource person, Mr. Oladeji Tayohighlighted other functions of the CCB, which includes assets declaration, eradication of corrupt practices in the public service, prohibition against operating foreign accounts, prohibition against accepting any gift or benefits in kind, prohibition against offering any property, gift, benefit or bribe amongst others.

Mr. Oladeji encouraged the participants to save themselves from the unpleasant consequences of having to face the Code of Conduct Tribunal and other Anti-corruption agencies adding that public servants are not allowed by law to operate foreign accounts. He however maintained that operating domiciliary accounts is an alternative if need be.
In his final address, the Vice-Chancellor lauded the State Director of the Bureau for painstakingly shedding lights on all the issues of concern even as he enjoined the participants to spread the enlightenment campaign to other staff members of the University without further delay.
Those in attendance included the Principal Officers of the University, Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Units and some other staff members of the University.
