Punch Nigeria Limited is unarguably one of the biggest print media outfits in the country. The Editor of The Punch, Mr. Ayankola, while presenting the books to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the company, noted that the books will “provide useful information on current economic realities, and also offer solutions".
Mr. Ayankola also hinted that the books are the compilation of articles on personal finance and management published on Page 4 of The Punch between 2004 and March 2009. According to him, the three books titled: “Building Entrepreneurial Skills”, “Job Hunting and Career Success” and “Managing A Successful Small Scale Business” are new publications of the Punch Nigeria Limited. One of the books, “Building Entrepreneurial Skills” is contained in two volumes and expected to teach readers on how to achieve a “surprisingly easy and practical principles of discovery and development of personal, career and business potential”.
A back-page note on the books described them as “the much-needed elixir for troubled businesses; a map and compass for youths seeking redirection in life; and a reliable companion for readers seeking an escape route from boredom and idleness.”
The Vice-Chancellor, while thanking Mr. Ayankola and the Punch Nigeria Ltd, challenged the media to intensify its efforts in helping to build a better society, not only through criticism of governments, but by also reporting positive things being done in institutions, government and elsewhere. He challenged the media to beam its searchlight on the Nigerian university system by investigating and exposing cases of fraud, nepotism and low productivity among others. In his response, the Editor of the Punch newspapers expressed his delight in the gradual transformation taking place at UNIOSUN, promising that his organization will continue to partner with the university in its quest for excellence.
