Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET) Competition aims to encourage and improve local designs and engineering fitting to Nigerian societies, building varieties of solution-driven engineers and foster industrialization. Participating Universties include Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Universty of Ibadan (UI), Federal University of Ado-Ekiti (FUNAD), Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and Osun State University (UNIOSUN).
Innovations presented by Osun State University students in the group category are “Novel Software for Investigating the Dynamic Response of Coconut Fiber Reinforced Concrete to Bomb Explosion” by ASHORE-ONISEMO Mosadoluwa and TOROMADE John. In the individual category, OYENUGA Ahmed presented an innovation on “Dexterous Robotic Arm Helper Machine”. Other students who represented the University includes: AYENI Oladipupo Oluwatosin, AJAYI Babatunde Taofeek, OYENUGA Ahmed, OLASEGE Ismail, AKINLABI Peter Abiodun and AGBOLADE Elizabeth.
Dr. A.A. Bello, Ag. Dean, Faculty of Engineering, UNIOSUN, attribute the victory to the help of Almighty God and the University Management’s investments in Science and Technology oriented programmes, in addition to practical rather than theories.
Dr. Simon Olawale, Ag. Head of Department, Civil Engineering Department averred that there is need for a linkage between Universities and industries where industries will catch inventions to mass produce. He further stated that “We want students to know that whatever they do has industrial implications. We have to know what our Engineers are doing and encourage them rather than stockpiling inventions in the shelves and laboratory”.
The Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof Oguntola Jelil Alamu, while receiving and congratulating the students noted that CODET encourages entrepreneurship, innovation and industrialization of local invention geared towards the needs of Nigerian society. Prof. Alamu encourages the students and admonished them to do more and emerge overall winner in the forthcoming national competition in FCT, Abuja.
