In a bid to complement the effort of the State and enhance food security in the State of Osun and southwest Nigeria, the Osun State University will, on Monday, 2nd December, 2013, distribute cheques to indigenous vegetable farmers’ cooperatives who are participating in the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) project on the production and utilisation of indigenous Nigerian vegetables.The cheques will be distributed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adekunle Bashiru Okesina, to empower the farmers. The financial support is to empower the farmers for the dry season vegetables production. The event will hold at the Main Auditorium of the University, Osogbo at 9.00 a.m.
The Canadian Ambassador to Nigeria is expected to declare the workshop open while the Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is the Special Guest of Honour. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Wale Adedoyin will deliver a key note address at the ceremony.
The Chairman of UNIOSUN Governing Council, Prof Gabriel Olawoyin, SAN will receive the farmers cooperatives and other visitors in the name of the University.
