Dr. Oyaromade’s research in the area of credit rationing has revealed that credit rationing is widely practiced by banks in Nigeria. In the empirical analysis on credit rationing, it was shown that between 1970 and 2002, the credit market in Nigeria was mostly characterized by excess demand for credit and that interest rate played a limited role in clearing the credit market. His research on the channels through which the effects of monetary policy are transmitted to the real sector showed that the interest rate channel has very limited applicability to the Nigerian financial system as obtained in the developed economies. Dr. Oyaromade’s study presented at a conference in South Africa in 2007 on the estimation of a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) model for Nigeria has been indicated as a pioneering study in the area of the application of DSGE model to the analysis and formulation of monetary policy in Nigeria. Two of his papers on survey of the literature on monetary transmission mechanism (MTM) and finance-growth nexus have been able to synthesize and reconcile the varied literature in the two areas. The papers also provide a lucid explanation of the extent of empirical studies in the areas of monetary transmission mechanism and financial development and economic growth relationship and summarize other critical areas of future research, especially for developing economies like Nigeria.

Adagunodo’s research in the area of energy demand and subsidies has revealed that the welfare impact of gasoline price reform was borne by middle income households. It was also indicated that poor households experience disproportionately greater welfare loss from kerosene price reform and welfare impact of diesel price was borne by the richest household. The study concluded that petroleum products subsidies do not have the same welfare and distributional impact across all households in Nigeria.
