The Department of Political Science and International Relations is under the College of Management and Social Sciences, Okuku. The Department offers one academic programme;

B.Sc. Political Science and International Relations

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
Philosophy
The philosophy of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Osun State University, Okuku Campus is to produce graduates who are sensitive, skillful and able to appreciate political phenomena. It also seeks to produce graduates who can make objective contributions to national development by offering viable alternative political and policy strategies and modules to national development in this period of national search for sustainable political development. The department will have two main objectives, to: provide pertinent courses for the various programmes; and co-ordinate and facilitate cutting-edge research, training programmes, workshops, roundtable discussions and symposia.

Objectives
The department will have two main functions: To provide courses for the various programmes; to co-ordinate and facilitate research, training programmes, workshops and symposia. The B.Sc. Political Science and International Relations programme is designed to:

  1. give students the competitive edge in their chosen fields;
  2. prepare them for leadership careers in administration, diplomatic service and other managerial endeavor;
  3. to give them the needed exposure and strive vigorously to rekindle their interest in public affairs as enlightened and disciplined citizens; and,
  4. set in tune the ability of students to appreciate political phenomena and conduct teaching and research at higher levels.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
General
For admission into any of the first degree programmes of the University, a candidate shall be required to possess the following minimum qualifications:
1. Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalents with credit level passes in five (5) subjects at not more than two sittings. The candidate must also earn an acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
2. Candidates seeking admission by direct entry into the 200 level, must have at least five (5) O/L credits, two of which must be at Advanced Level or approved equivalents.
Departmental Admission Requirement
U.M.E. Candidates
For admission into the first degree programme in Political Science and International Relations, a candidate must have the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalents with credit level passes in five (5) subjects: English Language, Government or History to form the core subjects with other relevant social science subjects at not more than two sittings. A credit in Mathematics will be an added advantage. The candidate must also earn an acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Direct Entry Candidates
Candidates seeking admission by direct entry into the 200 level Political Science and International Relations programme, must have Advanced Level passes in at least two (2) of the following: Government, History, English Language, Literature in English, in addition to credit level passes in five of the subjects listed in 3.2.1 above at the SSCE or its equivalents. Candidates with ND and approved equivalents in relevant fields with at least a lower credit may be considered for direct entry into the programme. Candidate with acceptable pass in the UNIOSUN Foundation Programme are also eligible for admission into the 200 level, provided they possess the requisite qualification for entry into the 100 level of the programme.
Post UTME Screening
All Candidates seeking admission into the University irrespective of their UTME scores shall be required to pass the University post UTME Screening test before being admitted.
Registration Procedure
(a) Students shall normally complete registration at the beginning of the semester.
(b) Any addition or deletion from the courses for which a student is formally registered must be made with the consent of the course coordinator.
(c) A student may be allowed to withdraw from a course by the course administrator before a third of lectures have been given. Such a student who withdraws after this time or who fails to sit for examination without reasons acceptable to the appropriate Faculty/College Board shall be deemed to have failed the course. A Grade point of 0F shall be record for the student in the course.
(d) Late registration in the course may be allowed with penalty of up to 4 weeks after the commencement of registration.
Duration of Degree Programmes
The minimum number of years to be spent to be awarded a first degree in a programme of study in non-professional area in the university shall be four years (or three years minimum for direct entry candidates). Registration shall not exceed an additional 50% of the duration of the programme if the student fails to graduate within the minimum number of years.
Graduation Requirements
To qualify for the award of a degree of the Osun State University, a student is required to have:
(i) completed and passed the prescribed number of units including all compulsory courses specified by the University.
(ii) completed and met the standards for all required and optional courses.
(iii) obtained the prescribed minimum CGPA.

Department of Geography

Brief History of the Department
The Department of Geography in Osun State University was established in the Faculty of Social Sciences, College of Management and Social Sciences in 2007/2008 Session. Within the first year of the establishment of the University, the Department admitted its first set of fifteen (15) students in B.Sc Geography. Professor Temi E. Ologunorisa , the first Professor to be appointed in the University, is the Pioneer Head of Department in 2007. Other founding lecturers of the Department are Professor Olukayode Ojo, the Foundation Provost of the College of Management and Social Sciences who came (on leave of absence) from Lagos State University and Mr. Sunday Adeniyi employed as a Lecturer II and Dr. Felix Olorunfemi (who was engaged as an Adjunct Lecturer I). In 2008, Dr. S. G. Odewumi, was employed as an Associate Professor in Urban Geography and GIS and Mr. Kayode Samuel who previously was engaged as a Special Doctoral Student in 2007 is now re-designated as an Assistant Lecturer. Dr. Adetunji A. and Dr. Andrew Onwemelle were employed in July 2009 as Lecturer II in Transport and Rural Geography respectively.
In September, 2011, Dr. Yakubu Samuel joined the Department as Lecturer I in Soil and Biogeography. Dr.Aremu J.R., a Senior Lecturer in Climatology was on Sabbatical from Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in 2010/2011 session. He was replaced with Dr.H.I. Jimoh, a Senior Lecturer in Geomorphology and Dr.E.O. Oriola, a Senior Lecturer in Soil and Biogeography, who are currently on sabbatical in the department from the University of Ilorin.
Research Centre and Linkages
The Department has a strong link with the Osun State University Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research. It is also about establishing a linkage with the National Centre for Remote Sensing (NCRS), Jos and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Abuja to promote research, consultancy and support for the teaching of Remote Sensing, Geographical Information System, and Applied Meteorology. 
Philosophy and Objectives
The philosophy of the Department of Geography Osun State University, Okuku Campus is to produce graduates who are environmentally literate, sensitive and skillful. It also seeks to produce graduates who can make objective contributions to national development by providing solution(s) to natural and man-made environmental problems arising from environmental abuse and make the surface of the earth to be functionally appropriate and sustainable. Geography is seen as a discipline concerned with both the biophysical and human environment. 
The Department has four broad aims all within the context of its philosophy:
 
1. To teach the understanding of both the biophysical and human environments, and the relationship between the two. 
2. To impart the skills, methodologies and analytical techniques required to conduct in-depth research in human and biophysical environments and their interactions.
3. To impart the ideas and concepts of rational management with respect to the planning, conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of environment, and 
4. To give students a deep knowledge of the principles of spatial and temporal organization of natural and human phenomena on the earths surface. 
Structure of The Programme 
The Department provides a four-year programme of courses leading to the award of B.Sc. Honours Degree in B.Sc. Geography.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must also earn an acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Direct Entry Candidates
Candidates seeking admission by direct entry into the 200 level Geography programme, must have Advanced Level passes in at least two (2) of the subjects which must include Geography, in addition to credit level passes in five of the subjects listed in 3.2.1 above at the SSCE or its equivalents. Candidates with ND/NCE and approved equivalents in relevant fields with at least a lower credit may be considered for direct entry into the programme. Candidate with acceptable pass in the UNIOSUN Foundation Programme are also eligible for admission into the 200 level, provided they possess the requisite qualification for entry into the 100 level of the programme.

The Department of Economics is under the College of Management and Social Sciences, Okuku. The Department offers one academic programme;

B.Sc. Economics

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy underlying the Economic programme is to produce graduates equipped with critical skills and abilities to: abstract using simplified models that identify the essence of a problem; analyze and reason - both deductively and inductively; marshal evidence, assimilate structure and analyze qualitative and quantitative date; communicate concisely the results to a wide audience, including those with no training in Economics; think critically about the limits of one's analysis in a broader socio-economic context; and draw economic policy inferences and to recognize the potential constraints in their implementation.

OBJECTIVES

i) Provide training in the principle of economics and their application appropriate to the type of degree concerned: single, joint and combined studies.

ii) Stimulate students intellectually through the study of economics and to lead them to appreciate its application to a range of problems abd its relevance in a variety of contexts.

iii) Develop in students the ability to apply analytical tools, knowledge and skills acquired to the solution of societies' economic problems.

iv) Equip students with appropriate tools of analysis to tackle issues and problems of economic policy

v) Develop in students, through the study of economics, a range of transferable skills that will be of value in employment and self employment

vi) Provide students with the knowledge and skill base, from which they can proceed to further studies in Economics, related areas or in multi disciplinary areas that involve Economics.

Candidates seeking admission by direct entry into the 200 level Economics programme, must have Advanced Level passes in at least two (2) subjects which must include Mathematics and Economics, in addition to credit level passes in five of the subjects listed in 3.2.1 above at the SSCE or its equivalents. Candidates with ND and approved equivalents in relevant fields with at least a lower credit may be considered for direct entry into the programme. Candidates with acceptable pass in the UNIOSUN Foundation Programme are also eligible for admission into the 200 level, provided they possess the requisite qualification for entry into the 100 level of the programme.

B.Sc. Business Administration

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the Department of Business Administration programme is to provude graduate education and training in Business Administration and Management, which broadens the intellectual exposure of the students in the discipline and develop their capacity to understand various issues involved and apply same to business and management situations and problems.

OBJECTIVES

i) Prepare students for careers in the public and private sectors.

ii) Develop entrepreneurial spirit in graduating student which will enable them to be employers rather than employees after graduation.

iii) Provide a strong academic background for research and post-graduate studies.
