INTRODUCTION
This editorial policy describes the operations of the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities and offers a guideline for all materials published in the journal. The policy is necessary to ensure that Osun State University has a strong, world class university-based journal which captures specialized areas of law, the humanities and social sciences. This policy should only be added to or altered with great discretion. All changes to this policy must be approved by the UNIOSUN Journals Committee.
1. GENERAL EDITORIAL – Scope and Content Sources
1.01 The mission of the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities is to expand the body of knowledge in the core areas of Law, Development Studies, Education and the Humanities through our editorial contents. Contents include editorials, feature articles and book reviews.
1.02 Two issues of UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities shall be published annually in both online and print formats.
1.03 The contents of the Journal shall be 50%, 30% and 20% from Nigeria, other African countries and other continents of the world respectively. The final selection of those sources, topics and their treatment will be determined by the Journal's editorial board.
2. EDITORIAL BOARD
2.01 The editorial board of UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities comprises an Editor-in-Chief, review editors drawn from Nigeria, other African countries, America, Europe, Asia and Australia; one Language/Formatting Editor and a Managing / Desk Editor. These shall be entirely composed of renowned reputable scholars within the scope of the Journal.
2.01 The positions in the editorial board of UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities are tenured
2.02 All submissions are preliminarily evaluated by assigned editorial staff and, when appropriate, an editorial review board. Submissions are evaluated based on a list of criteria, including originality, objectivity, applicability to the journal’s readership, conformity with Journal format, quality of writing and research.
2.03 Members of the editorial review board will make every reasonable effort to check facts, quotes, figures and statements. But ultimate accountability and accuracy of the work rests with the author(s).
2.04 The Journal's editors and its editorial review board evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or the political philosophy of the authors. The decision to publish a submission remains wholly with the editorial board.
2.05 The Journal editors reserve the right to reject a submitted work without a formal review by the editorial review board should the editors deem the work inappropriate for the Journal's audience, repetitive of previous content, not of adequate depth, not well written, similarly published or under consideration elsewhere, too narrow in focus, or otherwise unfit for the Journal's needs.
3. SIGNED EDITORIALS
3.01 In each issue of UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities, there shall be signed editorials from the Vice-Chancellor and the Editor-in-Chief.
3.02 Transactions with UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities will principally be online. The Journal is domiciled within the official website of the Osun State University- www.uniosun.edu.ng. All materials published on the Journal website remains the property of the Journal. Reproduction of this material without proper citation is not permitted.
3.02 The articles or comments on the Journal’s website do not represent the views or opinions of the Journal, but of the author(s) or comment-writer alone. All submissions must contain the e-mail address of the author(s) or comment-writer.
3.03 The UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities operates under the Vice-Chancellor’s office of Osun State University, P.M.B. 4494, Osogbo, Nigeria.
4. SUBMISSIONS
4.01 All authors submitting work for consideration of publication must reveal upfront any substantive financial or other conflicts of interest that might affect the objectivity of their work. Such potential conflicts will be taken into consideration when determining suitability for publication and will be appropriately disclosed to the reader if the work is published.
4.02 Submission of articles should be done through e-mail attachment to the desk editor at
4.03 Articles are anonymously peer-reviewed (double blind) by the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities Editorial Board or by other professionals with content expertise in the article topic. All submissions must be firmly based on experience or research and must be relevant to contemporary issues. Articles are reviewed for their originality, quality, length, content, and applicability to an international readership with strict adherence to the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities Author’s Guidelines.
4.04 Articles are accepted with the understanding that their contents are the author(s)’ original work, not slanderous, libelous, or plagiarized. All statements of opinion and supposed fact in the Journal are published under the authority of the authors. They are not to be accepted as the views of the editors, the publisher, the UNIOSUN Journals Committee, or the Osun State University.
5. OPINIONS AND CHALLENGES OF CONTENT
5.01 Criticism of the Journal contents may be published in the form of a letter to the editor or as a follow-up paper. The criticism must be of sufficient quality, focused on the presentation and findings of the previously published work, and cannot be personal, defamatory, or offensive.
5.02 If the content of a published article in the Journal is found to be or challenged to be materially or factually in error, such that the underlying premise or conclusions of the article are in question, a letter could be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief (to which the original author may respond), the challenger could submit a manuscript written as a response to the article being criticized, or convincing evidence may be published as a correction.
5.03 Any challenges submitted as manuscripts will go through the Journal's peer-review process. Publication is not guaranteed.
5.04 A challenge to any of the Journal’s articles may, if appropriate, be brought before an ad hoc appeals committee of academics, or other experts in order to assess and resolve the challenge. A report of the committee's findings will be made public. If a retraction is deemed necessary by the committee, a retraction statement will be published in the Journal. Notification of retraction will be posted on the Journal website as a link associated with that article.
6. SPONSORSHIP AND PAGE CHARGES
6.01 The UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities is supported through subscriptions and corporate sponsorship from the Education Trust Fund of the Federal Government of Nigeria only, and thus does not contain any advertising. Every effort is made to ensure that individual companies and individual authors are not unduly represented. Articles are reviewed to ensure that there is no intent to promote products, services, or specific companies. Such an explicit promotion is a cause for rejection of an article by the editorial board.
6.02 There are no page charges for articles accepted for publication in UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities. Additional copies may however be ordered for under conditions as may be spelt out by the UNIOSUN Journals Committee.
7. COPYRIGHT, REPRINT AND LINKING
7.01 Contributing authors assign copyright to the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities. By submitting an article to be published in the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities, all authors agree to a “transfer of copyright.” This transfer agreement enables Osun State University to protect the copyrighted material for the authors, but does not relinquish the author’s proprietary rights. The copyright transfer covers Osun State University’s exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, or any other reproductions of similar nature and translations, and includes the rights to adapt the article for use in conjunction with computer systems and programs and online media. Authors are responsible for obtaining from the copyright holder permission to reproduce information or figures for which copyright exists.
7.02 No part of the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical, including photocopy, recording, or any other information storage and retrieval system, without written permission from the Osun State University. Anyone wishing to use UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities contents, whether through reprints or electronic sharing, must seek permission to reprint or permission to link.
8. GUIDELINES TO AUTHORS
8.01 LAW SUBMISSIONS
- Contributions in the form of articles, notes or reviews should be double-spaced and sent by e-mail attachment in Microsoft Word or WordPerfect to
- In the case of articles, an abstract of not more than 150 words should be submitted with the contribution. The author should also provide 5 key words.
- All submissions should be original pieces that are written in a clear and straight forward language beginning each paragraph with topical sentences and writing in active voice only.
- The title of every submission should be brief, attractive and accurate in describing what the paper is about. Headings and sub-headings within the text should be short and clear. Avoid too many levels of sub-headings.
- Double quotes should be used for primary quotations and single quotes for quotations within quotes. In general, use the following:
- For dates, use 30 May, 2009, not 30th May or May 30, 2009
- 2008-2009, not 2008-09
- 21st century
- pp.24-50 not 24-50, Pp. 24-50, p.24 et seq.
- “e.g.” and “i.e.”, not “eg” or “ie”
- Section and Article, not S., sec. or Art.
- Italicise all Latin and other foreign language words
- Books should be cited as follows:
- Author (initials and last name), title (in italics), place of publication, name of publisher, year of publication, page number(s) with p. or pp.
- e.g. O.O. Oladele, Law of Business Associations in Nigeria, 2nd ed., Osogbo, Uniosun Press, 2009, pp.30-32
- All the words in the book title, except minor form-words such as “by”, “an”, “a”, “the” etc, should have capital initials

- Title of statutes in the text should be given in full (after which subsequent reference may be abbreviated. Once the acronyms are properly placed immediately in brackets and in italics, (i.e. Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), CAMA may then be used in the text in subsequent reference to this statute. In the footnote, cite the statute as Companies and Allied Matters Act, Cap. C20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, Section 18. CAMA may be used in subsequent reference. For example, See CAMA, Section 63(2)
- Cases should be cited in the official mode of citation of the Law Report. Otherwise, cite as year, volume number (if any) initials of report, page, e.g. [2008] 2 All N.L.R. 20 at 21.
The name(s) of cases except the connecting “v.” should be in italics, e.g. Davies v. Fekumo. - Employ footnotes, numbered consecutively, not end notes.
- Articles and other submissions are accepted on the understanding that they are not being considered concurrently by any other journal. Disks and hardcopies cannot be returned.
- Articles and other submissions are accepted on the understanding that the author(s) has/have assigned exclusive copyright to the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities.
- The authors have the responsibility to ensure that the material submitted does not infringe copyright and is not obscene, defamatory or otherwise litigious or unlawful
- The Editorial Board is not responsible for any views that the contributors express.

8.02 HUMANITIES AND CULTURE, EDUCATION AND SKILL ACQUISITION, SOCIAL AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES SUBMISSIONS
- Contributions could be submitted in English Language, French and Yoruba.
- Contributions are considered for publication only on the understanding that they are not simultaneously under consideration elsewhere in English, that they are the original work of the author(s) and that any previous form of publication and any current consideration in other languages are disclosed.
- Articles and other submissions are accepted on the understanding that they are not being considered concurrently by any other journal.
- Articles and other submissions are accepted on the understanding that the author(s) has/have assigned exclusive copyright to the UNIOSUN Journal of Law, Development and the Humanities.
- The authors have the responsibility to ensure that the material submitted does not infringe copyright and is not obscene, defamatory or otherwise litigious or unlawful
- Standard length of paper is 6000 words, but shorter contributions are also welcome. They should be typed, double spaced on one side of the paper with margins of 3cm.
- Title, author’s name, full address and brief biographical note should be typed on a separate sheet.
- An abstract of 150 words and about 5 key words should also be typed on a separate sheet.
- Line diagrams should be presented as camera-ready copy on glossy paper (b/w, unless to be reproduced – by arrangement – in colour) and, if possible, on disk as EPS files (all fonts embedded) or TIFF files, 800 dpi – b/w only. For scanning, photographs should preferably be submitted as clear, glossy, unmounted b/w prints with a good range of contrast or on disk as TIFF files, 300 dpi. Use single quotation marks (except for quotes within quotes).
- References should appear at the end of text. Referencing in the text should be as follows: (Archer, 1982:157).
