UNIOSUN GOOGLE STUDENT AMBASSADORS ORGANIZE ANDROID APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING WORKSHOP

androidThe 2014/2015 Google Student Ambassadors of Osun State University recently got approval for a fully sponsored Google Hands-On training on Android Applications Development for students in the University.

This was contained in a detailed progress report submitted by the GSAs, Akintola Oluwaseun and Olorunda Temitope. According to them, "the Android Applications Development training has been a dream of the 2014/2015 Google Student Ambassadors of this noble University, and this came up after attending the Final year project presentations of Computer Science Students of the 2013/2014 graduating set. We therefore thought it forth to propose a fully sponsored Google Hands-On training".

The proposal submitted by the GSAs of Osun State University was approved mid-February and Akintola Oluwaseun, one of the 2014/2015 UNIOSUN Google Student Ambassadors was appointed the Organizer of the Study Club and a seasoned Android developer was attached to the group as Facilitator/Trainer.

Although the training could not start earlier as a result of the just concluded Harmattan semester examinations, however plans have been put in place to cover all the necessary basics of the training within few weeks, where training materials supplied by Google have been, and will be distributed to enhance the training.

It is also important to note that the training is not meant for Computer Science students only, as even at the last inter-school software exhibition held in the faculty, a Microbiology Student of this noble University came first.

The training programme started officially on the June 3, 2015 with an opening session. The opening speech was delivered by the Ag. Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Anthony Kola-Olusanya ably representing the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jelil Oguntola Alamu. Present at the workshop also was the Google trainer for the Android Study Club in OAU, and the GDG manager of the University of Ibadan who was attached to this training by Google as facilitator and trainer. Training sessions have since then been holding every Fridays at 3:00pm and Saturdays at 10:00am prompt.

After this training, it is expected that each participant will come up with an idea of a mobile app to be developed on Android platform which solves a problem or provides service to its users, sponsorships are however awaited to celebrate the best software developed from the group.
