The Vice-Chancellor's adulation was contained in a statement made available to the press by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, on Thursday, 6th July, 2023.
The Vice-Chancellor's statement partly reads “On behalf of Management, staff and most importantly, students of the University, I appreciate Osun Development Forum and its President, Alhaji Kazeem Adetunji, for their thoughtfulness and benevolence.
"Giving back to society sets the scene for trust building, as it endears the donors to the recipients. The gesture of giving back creates an everlasting memory in the minds of beneficiaries, which could spur students to engage in philanthropic acts when they eventually become economically independent in life, being products of philanthropy themselves.
"One hundred thousand naira (N100,000) means a lot to every student in today's economy, which makes the gesture the more commendable. Once again, I appreciate you for doing this and pray that you would be replenished in many folds," the Vice-Chancellor added.
The scholarship is awarded to the best students in Faculties, starting from their second year, and is maintained till graduation on the basis of sustained academic performance at the highest level.
Osun Development Forum, Dallas, Texas chapter started the scholarship scheme five years ago to decrease the school dropout rate of brilliant but indigent students in Government-owned higher institutions in Osun State, who are of Osun descent.
Seven existing beneficiaries in the University had their scholarships renewed by the Forum, while four new beneficiaries were added to the 2023 list. The new beneficiaries were pooled from the Faculties of Education, Computing and Information Technology, Basic Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
