Welcome Address/Introduction:
On behalf of the faculty members and students of our department, I am delighted to welcome you to the Department of Plant Biology at Osun State University. As a leading center of excellence in plant biology research and education, our department is committed to advancing the understanding of plant biology and its applications to address global challenges.

Location:
Intercollegiate Building, First floor, Room 229, Main Campus, Osogbo.

Brief History:
Plant Biology started as a programme in the defunct Department of Biological Sciences in the year 2012. The different programmes in the Department of Biological Sciences were upgraded into full-fledged Departments in 2017 and the newly created Department of Plant Biology moved away from the SET building where it started to the new staff office close to Sola Akinrinade’s Library and later to intercollegiate building where it remains till today. The department has since graduated a large number of undergraduate students since 2015/2016 session when the first set graduated till date. The Department got NUC approval to run M.Sc. and Ph.D. in five different areas of Plant Biology in 2019.
All the members of academic staff of the Department are well trained in reputable Universities within the country and abroad. The professors and other senior members of the Department offer mentorship to the younger members of academic staff that are also willing to tap from the wealth of knowledge of their senior colleagues. Many of the graduates of this Department are spread all over the country doing well for themselves. Some are in other universities undergoing postgraduate studies while some do come back for their postgraduate studies in the Department.
The academic members of staff of the Department belong to different professional associations and societies and they attend conferences organized by these bodies periodically. Some of these societies include, Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON), Nigerian Field Society, South African Society of Botanists and Ecological Society of Nigeria, to mention but a few.

Mission:
To promote qualitative research and train students in Basic Plant Biology.

Vision:
Our vision in the Department of Plant Biology is to train undergraduate and graduate students that will appreciate plants and their products and use them to provide jobs for themselves and for others while helping to develop their environment and remain relevant among Nigerian scientists and globally.

Academic Programmes:
- B.Sc. Plant Biology
- M.Sc. Plant Biology (Options in Plant Anatomy/Taxonomy, Plant Ecology, Genetics/Cytogenetics, Lower Plants, Plant Physiology)
- Ph.D. Plant Biology (Options in Plant Anatomy/Taxonomy, Plant Ecology, Genetics/Cytogenetics, Lower Plants, Plant Physiology)

Physical Development:
Befitting Head of Department office, conducive staff offices, Botanical Garden, Standard screen house, herbarium, laboratories (post graduate and undergraduate)
